Juan Mata on his way to Chelsea

Chelsea have agreed a fee of £23.5 million with Valencia CF for winger Juan Mata. The news follows rumours that there could be an exodus at Stamford Bridge.

23 year old Mata headed to Stamford Bridge for a medical today. Once passed, all that remains is to agree personal terms with the club.

The fee is not official, but reports from Spain suggest the figure of £23.5 million.

Mata was part of Spain’s 2010 World Cup winning squad and also captained the Spain team that won the Under-21 European Championship during the summer.

He brings to Chelsea something they have been looking for since since Arjen Robben left, which is a player that can accelerate rapidly and put defenders on the back foot.

On previous questioning Villas Boas said this in Mata “He’s not our player but he’s an interesting player.” “He’s a good player, a very good player.

Mata scored 8 goals last season helping Valencia secure third spot in the Primera Liga.

After the sale goes through Valencia will have sold all four of their World Cup stars – David Silva, David Villa, Raul Albiol and Juan Mata.
