Sir Alex Ferguson was left a proud man last night after his young side beat Spurs 3-0. The sides were drawing before the break, but on the 61st minute Danny Welbeck put United ahead when he headed in Tom Cleverley’s cross, before setting up the second for Anderson. Wayne Rooney then added the third in the last few minutes of the game.
The average age of United’s starting XI was just 23 and Sir Alex Ferguson has a lot of faith in his young players including Welbeck.
“Danny is still only 20 years of age and the lad has a great future.” He said.
“This group have such fantastic ability, it forces me to play them really,” said Ferguson.
Welbeck spent some time at Preston at the beginning of 2010 before spending the 2010-11 season at Sunderland where he impressed.
Another youngster to shine in the match was Phil Jones, who gave an outstanding performance to ensure that Ferdinand and Vidic were not missed in the game.
